HINDENBURG LINE - SAINT QUENTIN CANAL

The most protected part of the Hindenburg line went from Saint Quentin to Bony. Taking advantage to the natural defensive position of Saint Quentin Canal and the tunnel built by Napoleon at Riqueval, the positions were said to be impenetrable.

However, it order to advance, it had to be captured. Thus on September 27 1918 Rawlinson's 4th Army, comprised of American, Australian and British infantry were deployed from Bellenglise to Bony.

Numerous ruins, bunkers, memorials and cemeteries are silent proof of this bloody battle.
